The summer sure went all tooooo fast. There have been many behind-the-scenes activities at BCI, among the highlights includes co-locating at ATS in Syracuse using Adelphia as a telephone and bandwidth provider. This has put BCI in a position to offer 4 different dial-up access numbers for our Auburn local customers and 15 local access numbers for our Syracuse area customers. Here's some accomplishments from the summer of 2001....
Added in Adelphia as a bandwidth and telco provider.
Co-located with A-Z.net in the State Tower Building in Syracuse.
Upgraded with all new dialup equipment in 3 locations.
Offer 4 different access numbers local to Auburn
Offer Real OnLine SignUp
Introduced the $2 internet offering
Began offering Nationwide DialUp Access in 50 States & Canada.
Upgraded to Sequel Server for the Authentication Database.
As BCI continues to grow and expand, so will the services offered its customers. There is a good reason BCI is the largest LOCAL ISP in this area, it's the superior customer service, the one-stop-internet shop, and the great connections to name just a few.... come see for yourself!!!

To All BCI Customers using Windows based computers:
You may have heard the recent news concerning another new virus making the rounds. As some of you have already discovered this computer virus is highly contagious, and now have it on your own PC.
The virus is know as the VBS.SSTmm... it is an e-mail worm that arrives in the following form:
Subject:
Here you have, ;O)
Message Body:
Hi:
Check this!
Attachment:
AnnaKournikova.jps.vbs
When executed, this virus will e-mail itself to everyone in your Outlook Express mail program. Most think it's a photo of the tennis star Anna Kournikova, but it isn't.
THE GOOD NEWS!
There is protection available. However, just having an antivirus program isnt enough. It is extremely important that you run a Live Update on your antivirus program, then have the antivirus software scan your hard drive for viruses. The new update will help protect you from over 48,000 viruses.
If you do not have an anti-virus program on your PC, we highly recommend
you consider installing one and use it regularly. Some computer viruses are deadly in that they can wipe out some of your important files and they can also be easily passed to another PC's without your knowledge. Help us to help protect your PC - use your virus scanning software as needed.
Thank you.

Since Thursday afternoon there have been intermittent problems with the USA Datanet access numbers which are XXX-5800 and XXX-5850. I'm told this is due to a circuiting problem with a phone switch in the State Tower Building in Syracuse.
USA Datanet has been in contact throughout the day with BCI to indicate they are feverishly working on this problem and that it should be corrected soon (before Saturday if not sooner).
The XXX-3500 access numbers that is supplied by AT&T are working well, however many customers regularly use these numbers and are now likely to be full during the intermittent downtime with the USA Datanet numbers.
Two weeks ago, BCI began planning for the addition of more equipment using other providers so that problems of this nature in the future will be minimal as far as BCI service is concerned.
We apolgize about any inconvenience this has caused.
Thank you.

Happy New Year BCI Customers....
Id like to take a moment to pass along updated information concerning
BCI High Speed access.
1. BCI will offer high speed access thru your existing telephone line.
The service that we will offer is called DSL (short for digital
subscriber line). Im told you will only need a single telephone line
to your house as telephone and DSL access use the same line.
2. BCI started in the early summer of 2000 working with a DSL provider
out of Pennsylvania. In November, it appeared BCI was approximately 2 -
3 weeks away from signing up DSL customers. The company unexpectedly
pulled out of the central New York region.
3. BCI immediately sought another DSL provider. This provider
announced Chapter 11 the morning of our first meeting.
4. BCI is now working with another provider AND working towards being a
provider as well.
In working with another provider that services the upstate New York
region, BCI will be in a position to offer DSL sooner rather than later.
In working towards being our own provider (CLEC - competitive local
exchange carrier), BCI will have its own equipment, own installers,
better control over scheduled installations, and better control over
what the end user would expect to be charged for high speed access.
5. This is important! Any unused fees paid to BCI on dialup may be
applied towards DSL should a customer wish to switch from a dial-up
connection to a DSL connection. For example, if you have paid $189 for
a year of dial-up, then switch to BCI High Speed 1/2 way into your 12
month subscription, then 1/2 of the $189 (or $94.50) will be applied
towards BCI High Speed access.
Thank you for being patient. BCI is moving quickly towards being able
to offer high speed access to our CURRENT CUSTOMERS FIRST, then to other
new or returning customers.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
December 20, 2000
This webpage is an opportunity to share with our subscribers news from "Your Local Internet Service Provider"... BCI. Many changes have taken place this year, the biggest and the best obviously is the company's relocation to a "newly" rennovated facility on Route 5 just 3 miles west of Elbridge. We now have a facility that is great for customers, employees, and business!
Here are the announcements on this date...
HIGH SPEED - DSL - BCI began in the spring of 2000 plans for offering DSL to it's Central New York customers. Plans have been altered several times in the last couple of months, but the goal is still the same... to offer High Speed connectivity that is as fast or faster than cable at about the same price. The target was to have customers on board at the end of December. Companies that BCI have been working with are changing their offerings and therefore cannot offer the services that we would lilke to offer our customers at a price that is competitive.
Currently, BCI is considering becoming a telephone company, some of the barriers we now face will go away because we then approach this business from a different position.
Bottom line, BCI will offer DSL in the future. Any monies used for Dial Up can be directly applied to the new service.
HIGH SPEED - WIRELESS - BCI will tackle this in 2001. Wireless connectivity technology is improving every week. I look for this to be more common in this part of the country soon. Wireless has a range of about 13 miles, so for those where cable is not, this might be an attractive offering.
OFF HOURS ANSWERING - BCI is contracting with a local company to help with the telephone answering during off hours. This will not be detailed tech support, but they may have an answer handy so that a customer won't have to wait until the office reopens the following day.
LONGER SUPPORT HOURS - BCI has been open for tech support Saturdays during office hours and Monday evenings until 7:00 pm. We'll continue to offer expanded hours and monitor support activity.
NATIONWIDE LOCAL ACCESS - BCI will have available nationwide dialup access early in 2001. This means that if you travel, internet connectivity is still a local phone call.
REDUNDANT T1 DATA LINE TO THE ELBRIDGE STORE - BCI now uses a single T1 data line through Applied Theory to supply internet connectivity to the office. In the past, when there have been problems with the T1 data line, services such as mail, web pages hosted at BCI, the 689-3500 dial-up modems, and any other businesses that co-locate their web servers here are "off-line". BCI has contracted with Verio to install a second T1 data line. This minimizes downtime due to a T1 outage, and keeps our customers happy! Another benefit from the service with Verio is that BCI will then become a Tier 2 Provider meaning connections to the net will be quicker because of the reduced number of hops before accessing the net.
INSTALL CD - BCI is working with LIG Computers in Auburn to prepare an install CD for installling a browser, e-mail program, and all the correct internet settings for computer. If your computer settings get accidentally changed, simply use the install CD to reinstall all your correct settings (why didn't we think of this earlier!)
REFERAL PROGRAM - BCI will once again reinstate the referal program on Janurary 1st, 2001. Send a friend, get a month tacked on to your subscription. We do appreciate customers introducing new customers to BCI, and we'll say "thank you" and please have an extra month on us!
CHRISTMAS DRAWING - BCI is again having its Holiday Internet Drawing (same as last year). This will be held at 1:00 pm on December 22nd in the BCI office. You must be a paid customer in good standing to be eligible to win. The prizes will be...
12 months internet
9 months internet
6 month internet
3 months internet
3 month internet
